It's Cool

So, Aliyah is now cool. Everyone's doing it. There's not even a need for an Aliyah for Dummy's anymore - it's been dummyproofed. But, with all hype, and with all the increases in the numbers, with all the people who have been wanting to come, realizing now that it's possible...one has to ask oneself...
Should everyone move here now? Are we required to worry about those who won't/can't/aren't coming? Do we just think what's best for ourselves.
I'm here.

Hmmm... That's a toughy. I think the more people come, the better off and the stronger Israel becomes. That stupid Arab demographic wouldn't matter. We'd overpower them oh so good. Don't ya think? I mean, it's also a complete slap in the face of all those people who think that bombs and explosions will stop people or make them too afraid to come here. You can't stop us!!!
The only think I worry about when it comes to thinking about people not coming here is the "why?" There are still the misconceptions that leaving America to come here is the biggest sacrifice in the world. Leaving America means giving up every luxury or material posession. Or, it's impossible to be as successful here as in the US. I'm sure you know the usual arguments. But, the more people come here, and the more the real truth gets told, I think the misconceptions will dissapear. I mean, why would so many people be doing it if it was impossible?
I say, COME HOME!! This is where we belong!! WE'RE WAITING!!

I do think ideally every Jew should be in Israel. However, right now, this is not an ideal world.

I think there are legitimate reasons to not make aliyah.

Sure, easy for you to say. You did not have to uproot 3 kids from their friends, family and house, and throw them into classrooms where they don't know the language or culture. It's not impossible, but it shouldn't be considered easy either.

People who make Aliyah are strong, committed individuals who do make supreme sacrifices. We have homes, jobs, and communities in which we have set up strong bonds. Not to mention that we still have parents and grandparents in Chutz La'Aretz.

Nobody should be told where to live. Nobody should be talked into a decision which is not an easy one. And nobody should have to be bombarded with someone's idealist views on a continual basis!

Veev, I understand it's very hard. You're right. I did not have to uproot a family. However, what I meant, is that people see it as such a huge sacrifice as to be impossible to do. It's not impossible.
