Rav Motty Elon has declined the offer that would put him at the head of the two united religious parties... I can understand anyone's desire to stay out of politics...but this is for such a greater good! Move to reconsider! I strenuously object!!

R Elon commands an audience that is to big to limit himself to a political party. It would lower who he is.
Oh, you strenuously object, then I'll allow it
1) national union is not religious
2) what makes motti elon so great? his parshat hashavua shiur? he's never gone public with his political opinions, how do you know you agree with him? he could be another in a long line of disengagement-supporting rabbis.
