One Step Closer
I did it! After just a little over a year and a half of being all Israeli and stuff I finally started the process to sign up for my socialized medical insurance, and my paying for socialized security. I tried to stay free for as long as I could, but I folded and found myself at an office, standing in a line, waiting for forms so that I could be processed. I asked the lady who I haded my filled out forms to what what the next step is. She replied that i will get more information in the mail, and I should just follow the directions. So don't be too shocked or worried, it's not like i'm covered, I'm just one step closer...

glad to see i'm not alone! i made aliya 19 september, and i still don't have a teudat oleh, or medical insuranse (and my american insurance ran out 21 november)
not that I can talk from my expireance (I amde aliyah when I was 2) but my Fiance just went (and is going through) the proccess and the Medical part of it was one of the easier ones to do. Menachem, getting a teudat oleh takes an Afternoon in Misrad HaKlita, and Getting Health Ins. takes 2 min. in the Post office (and some money) and 10 minutes at the Kupat Cholim you want to join.
I was suprised it was so easy (knowing how annoying most things can be). As for the Bituach Leumi 2R, you are one of few... I have been out of the army for almost 2 years and still have not dealt with them, so you are in good company.
i have the most complicated aliya story ever, trust me.
when i go to the misrad haklita, they tell me i need to go to the army to get an ishur that i served (because without taking off for the time served, i've been in the country for 3 years, which disqualifies me for a certain type of teutat oleh.) the office in the army, on days that i succeed in getting through to them, has never heard of this specific type of ishur. and i'm in university everyday, so i only do this stuff on fridays and sundays (my day off)
watch out for bitauch leumi guys - go register with them or they'll bite u in the ass in a few times time - that's what I've heard form my friends over there.
TRK
TRK,
ya I know, I have been warned before about that.
but just like menachem I am in University everyday, and (unlike Menachem, I think) I am getting Married in a month, so, I will worry about it then.
Menachem,
If the Misradim in this country wouldn't give you hard time and run you around like an Idiot for months on end, you will never be able to feel like a true Israeli. Also it is much easier to send you off than to actually deal with the problems at hand.
