Please Try Your Call Later

While in Ofakim I was given a number of someone who can get people into Gush Katif. He said if you want to get in, he can help. Call soon, because before too long even he won't be able to help. My friend called the number today to see about getting in. The voicemail on the cell phone was as follows (in Hebrew):
Dear Special Jew,
Thank you for calling about getting into Gush Katif. Unfortionately at this time I am unable to help you sneak in. Please use other creative methods of entering the area. It may be that after some time I will be able to help you again enter Gush Katif, so please call back.
Thank you.
I thought that was funny.

The Undeground Jewish Railroad is working overtime down South. A good friend of mine was driving there through fields when he got to a T intersection (of dirt roads). All of a sudden, a small kid (maybe 10) pops up from out of the weeds in the fields, with a small sign: "Gush Katif --->"
After about 3 seconds, he pops back, down well hidden away.

Many many soldiers and policemen are turning a blind eye, (and some are actively helping this railroad) -- the proof is that Gush Katif has doubled in population over the past 2 weeks.

Jameel, all I'm going to say is that this is an incerdibly stupid and dangerous venture. G-d help these kids, b/c there might not be anybody else to.

I hear the danger side, but I also am impressed by the creativeness and activism that is being played out.

Creativeness? They are putting their life in danger so much to the point where Homefront Command (one of the most important units carrying out the Hitnatkut) are extremely worried about their safety now, during, and (G-d forbid) if they manage to hide and stay there after the Hitnatkut's over. This is the dumbest form of protest that I can think of. This kind of activism won't accomplish anything except maybe getting some people killed. That's all that may come out of it. I mean, you heard about how a couple of Yishuv security guards almost shot a couple of kids caught trying to sneak into the Gush in the middle of the night, right? This is also one of the reasons they have to bulldoze all empty houses before the disengagement starts.

I don't think its nearly as dangerous as you think it is. Dangerous and Stupid? I think its far more dangerous for to live Sederot than it is to try to go through a field, and hitch a ride near Machsom Kissufim with a semi trailer going in (thats what people have been doing). On the other, its completely criminal that the IDF and the government allowed over 6000 mortar shells to land in Gush Katif, and their response has been PATHETIC. Had 6000 mortars hit Tel-Aviv, the government would have been a tad more active in trying to stop the violence, instead of letting the Gush Katif residents get bombarded....and then to add insult to injury, now they are trying to evict them.

Sorry - I don't think sneaking through a field is "dangerous and stupid"...that applies to the government's policy on protecting Jews in Gush katif.

Jameel, you're trying to mix apples and oranges. Two wrongs don't make a right. You may think one is "worse" or "better" than the other, but it doesn't discount that what these kids are doing is wrong, and stupid, and dangerous. You want to add insult to injury, that's fine. But, one doesn't null the other.

Why do you suppose he was unavailable? Do you think he got arrested? Is he holed up in the synagogue that's in the standoff? Do you know the guy?
